This is the habit of taking harmful substances such as nicotine in our bodies through inhalation of cigarettes, pipes and cigars.

Many people indulge in smoking habit for different reasons be it for leisure purposes, stress relief, or even for stimulation purposes. Smoking leads to addiction which has tragic health consequences such as chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and terminal illness.

Studies done before shows that the largest population practicing smoking habits is the young adults aged 18-30 (youths) with the highest proportion of the users being the males. This is a teenage period where they begin the smoking habits before it becomes an addiction in their lifetime (Haddad & Malak, 2002). Young adults are the most vulnerable people in the society and if not well moulded their lives get wasted through peer pressure.

Young adults are mostly viewed as potential entrepreneurs and industrialists who have prospects of career development, marriage life and starting a family. If not well natured these dreams will drown in deep trenches and buried in point of no return. Young females who engage in smoking tend to have difficulties in conceiving and to some extent causing impotence in men. The young generation is also on the verge of experience interference on both short term and long term development and full functioning of the lung system.

In order to stop this menace from growing, the young adults need to be inspired and motivated in life so that they can be have free health hazard implications from tobacco substance. The best approach is through having a society that can set a good example for them starting from their parents to their peers. Whereby parents become role models to their teens and not engage in tobacco abuse in the house or where your kid can have quick access to the drug. Parents to also talk to their kids about the effects of the tobacco use and how difficult it is to stop once you get addicted.

There are many ways of changing the attitudes of smoking but nevertheless challenges come along and the most significant one is peer pressure. Where the teens are easily persuaded by their peers to smoke in order for them to be perceived as “cool” or be in the same clique.

To address this challenge the government and different stakeholders need to work in collaboration in order to create awareness in the society for the young adults and their peers to know about the dangers they get into and the long term implications smoking tags along.
