It is always difficult to learn a new language. According to the research, the participants were given a test to use with paper dictionary, and electronic dictionary. A total of 50 participants were used in the research those that used electronic translation in the test were able to pass in a time with a full score out of 5 . There is often a huge difference in the ET and PT.
Through the research, it was noted that there was augmented retention rate and usage of the vocabulary from the Electronic translation. It is tremendously significant to appreciate that electronic translation has been essential in ensuring that students are able to rapidly learn a new language. The paper translations were seen to squander a lot of time and most of the students that used them stated that they found it tiresome to use as there was a need to always refer to different pages. This wasted a lot of time and the concentration of the students using the PT was low as compared to those that used ET. Further, through the findings of the research, it can be concluded definitely that indeed ET is better than PT in regards to test performance.
The most important advantage of the electronic dictionary is that it is very suitable to use. With the electronic translation, one can be able to understand new words and expressions, and one can know words quickly. It is of the essence to understand that with electronic translation there is no time to waste in regards to seeking new words. This research showed that students consulting the electronic translator performed better as compared to those with paper dictionary. It is important to notice that there existed a big difference which is significant for both productive and receptive tasks.
Further, in addition to the performance that was seen in the test, the students that used electronic translation were able to recall the meaning of the target items as well as target collocations. The electronic version has beyond 1 million words, and the search speed for a word is about 2.1 seconds as compared to that of paper dictionary that stands at 15.6 seconds. There is also the presence of irregular verbs, sentence structure, grammar and dialogs. The electronic dictionaries have removed the difficulty that existed where students had to bring heavy paper dictionaries to the classroom. Therefore, it can be seen that indeed it is very logical that there is the use of electronic dictionaries as they are portable and easier to use.
This research showed that there is a huge effectiveness when it comes to the use of the electronic dictionaries against the paper one in regards to translation. The electronic translation is effective in ensuring that the learning process goes on in the right manner. The research involved 50 participants, where there was division in to two groups. The first group used electronic translation whereas the other group used paper translation. It was determined that in actual sense, the students that consulted the electronic translation were able to perform much better as compared to that used paper translation. Further, it is important to understand that they were well balanced to understand and keep words better as compared to other students that used paper translation.
Rules are very important in maintaining order in the classrooms and school compound. While it is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that the rules are followed, excluding the students in the process of making the rules is a huge mistake. When students are allowed to set their rules, they have to obey them (ClaudialPesce, 2007). In a system where the students are allowed to make their rules, it is a requirement that the students understand the essence of having the rules. In this sense, the rules act as a covenant between the students and the teachers.
The process of setting the rules becomes quite easy when the students are involved. It is important to note that students are well aware of the behaviors that could disrupt them from their studies. When making the rules it is important to make sure that the students have a clear understanding of their goals and what the curriculum expects of them by the end of the training session (ClaudialPesce, 2007). This is achieved by asking the students to review their goals. After ensuring that the students are well aware of their responsibilities as students, the next step is for them to identify possible disruptive behavior. It is amazing that even the most undisciplined students are aware of both good and disruptive behavior (ClaudialPesce, 2007).
The next stage is to allow the students to identify possible ways of avoiding disruptive behavior. As the students mention the different ways of avoiding disruptive behavior, the teacher should take note of the methods that are acceptable to all students. The teacher can then rephrase them into affirmative rules and verify with the students that restating the rule did not alter the meaning (ClaudialPesce, 2007). The teacher’s contribution is highly relevant in defining the consequences. This is to ensure that the consequences and rewards are not outrageous.
Personal Opinion
From a personal perspective, the author, ClaudialPesce has put across a very valid argument on the topic of establishing and implementing rules, consequences, and rewards in the classroom. As I was reading the article, my mind went back several years ago when I was high school student. Then, it was very difficult for use to adhere to simple rules such as no bullying and respect for other students or their belongings. Most of us ended up doing punishments since we could not follow simple rules. Looking back, I cannot help but realize how easy life in high school would have been if we only followed the rules.
I took some time to think about the applicability of Claudialpesce’s idea among teenagers. During this time, I remembered how important I felt when my parents allowed me to handle the task on my own. I would feel proud and give up everything to make sure that I did it right. It was a different case when I was commanded to do something that I did not want to do. In most cases, I performed poorly in a supervised task. This is the same idea that the author of the article has applied in discussing the formation of rules and consequences in a classroom environment.
The teachers allow the students to take up responsibility for their behavior by allowing them to set rules for themselves. Among teenagers, this is interpreted as freedom to define what they want. As a result, they tend to follow rules that they helped in making. The information provided on the article is highly applicable in different learning environments especially those that involve teenagers.
